Mother: The late Maebelle Baker Evans

Father: The late Tom Evans

Education: Lanier County Public Schools, Valdosta Technical School

Mother Mary Alice Evans Carter was born to Deacon Tom & Mother Mae Belle Baker Evans on February 29, 1944. She gave her life to Christ as a child in a church started by her parents in their home, Evans Temple Holiness Church, Lakeland, GA.  As one of the founding members of Evans Temple, Mary worked tirelessly in the church as a teenager holding the office of Secretary and she sang in the choir.

Mother Carter later became a member of New Bryant Missionary Baptist Church, Lakeland, GA. As a member there she sang in the choir, drove the church van and taught vacation bible school. She enjoyed the many church trips and retreats over the years with her church family. She had a kind spirit and giving heart; turning away no one who was in need. She always kept a pot on the stove and welcoming smile on her face. It was her joy to make everyone feel special and like family.

Mother Carter was preceded in death by the love of her life, Mr. William H. Carter, Sr., two children (Oliver L. Smith and William H. Carter, Jr.), her parents Tom Evans & Maebelle Baker Evans, and three grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her memories and perpetuate her love three sons: Johnny Smith Jr. (Pennie), Germany; Kelvin Smith Sr., Lakeland, GA; William Christopher Carter, Naylor, GA; two daughters: Yoma Carter-Russell(Render), Atlanta, GA; Melleny Carter, Lakeland, GA; two step-daughters: Jacqueline Carter, Tampa, FL and Vivian Coleman (Quinn), Durham, NC.  She leaves many laughable and loving memories to her 26 adored grandchildren and 14 treasured great-grandchildren. Four sisters-in-law: Eva Evans Jones, Newark, NJ; Joan Evans, Philadelphia, PA; Vernell Carter, St. Petersburg, FL; Ernestine Carter, Tampa, FL. Three brothers-in-law: Rev.
