Arzetta Durden Carter

August 1, 1942 — December 13, 2013

ArzettaDurdenCarter, our mother and grandmother, departed this life on Friday, December 13, 2013, after a brief illness.

She was born on August 1, 1942, to the late Robert and Nancy Bell Durden. She was educated in the Lowndes County School System.

She was united in marriage to the late Deacon Willie Carter on May 2, 1973. To this union were added seven children: Doris, Judy, Courtney, Megan, Willie, Danny and Rosemary.

Arzetta loved the Lord with all her heart and soul. She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Baptist Church, where she served many years as a Sunday School Teacher and Finance Secretary.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by one daughter: Rosemary Houston, one sister: Henrietta Carter and two brothers: Nathaniel Durden and Robert Lee Durden.

Arzetta leaves to cherish her memories, six children: Doris Davis of Valdosta, GA, Judy Sims (Gary) of Kathleen, GA, Courtney Durden (Katina) of Jacksonville, FL, Megan Bennett (Arthur) of Valdosta, GA, Willie Carter (Brenda) of Naylor, GA, and Danny Carter (Sandra) of Ellenwood, GA; four loving sisters: Nancy Johnson (Elex) of Manchester, VT, Doris Johnson (Maurice) of Manchester, VT, Evelyn Johnson of Lakeland, GA and Patricia Roberts (Jewell) of Naylor, GA; one brother: Clifton Durden of New York; one sister in-law: Gloria Durden; 22 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who were the joy of her life; two special nephews: Jameson Roberts and Kenneth Durden; two special nieces: Chrystal Carter and Jenetta Roberts; her beloved adoptive family, The Brantleys; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The homegoing celebration for the late Mrs. Arzetta Durden Carter will be held Friday, December 20, 2013 at 1:00pm from the sanctuary of St. Mary's Baptist Church.

Rev. Dexter Burch is the pastor.

Rev. Michael Lane will officiate.

Interment will follow in the St. Mary's Baptist Church Cemetery.
