Mrs. Bertha M. Holmes

Bertha M. Holmes was born October 26, 1934 in Waycross, GA, to the late Caleb Frost, Sr. and Bertha Ruth Frost.

She was educated in the Echols County School System and graduated from Statenville Consolidated School in Statenville, GA.

Bertha Holmes was one of life’s best gifts, someone to treasure all life through. She was caring, loving, thoughtful and true. She was a hard worker. After many years of dedicated service, she retired from SAFT. To her children and grandchildren whom she adored, she was a mentor and confident whose love they could depend. There was magic in her touch and sunshine in her smile. There was love in everything she did to make her family’s life worthwhile. She loved the Lord and was a member of Greater Mt. Carmel House of God Saints in Christ.

On Thursday, May 28, 2015, God looked around His garden and found an empty place, He then looked down upon the earth and saw Bertha’s precious face. He put His arms around her and lifted her to eternal rest.

In addition to her parents, Bertha is preceded in death by her husband: Willie Howard Holmes and two brothers: Nathaniel Frost and Caleb Frost, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children whom she loved dearly: Beverly A. Frost of Lake Park, GA, Howard A. Holmes, Sr. of Abbeville, GA; Darrell C. Holmes, Sr. of Atlanta, GA, Regina E. Spencer (Michael), Mark E. Holmes, Craig S. Holmes, Sr., (Vickie) all of Valdosta, GA; four sisters: Loreatha Ratcliff of Valdosta, GA, Nellie Foy of Lawnside, NJ, Thelma Jordan of Newark, NJ and Doreatha Merritt of Smithfield, NC; one brother: Henry Frost (Bobbie) of Decatur, GA; three special friends: Isabella James, Minnie McCaskill and Gladys Hezekiah; her hairstylist whom she loved, Renika Darity; special caregivers: Tomeka Edwards and Aunt Loretha; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

The celebration of life for the late Mrs. Bertha M. Holmes will be held Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 2:00pm from the sanctuary of New Covenant Church located at 3531 Bemiss Rd, Valdosta, GA.

Pastor Jeff Williams will officiate.

Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens.

Public viewing will be held Friday, June 5, 2015, from 10:00am - 8:00pm in the Godfrey Funeral Home Chapel.
