Betty Lou Godfrey Williams was born August 18, 1942 in Brooks County, Georgia to the late Mr. James and Connie Godfrey. She was the seventh child of ten.
Betty attended the Brooks County School System and graduated from the former Washington Street High School in Quitman, Georgia.
After completing high school, she moved to Valdosta and became gainfully employed at Pineview General/South Georgia Medical Center for twenty five years. She continued to live a productive life and was employed by Public Home Health until her health began to fail.
Betty was an active member of the Southside Church of Christ until she was physically unable to attend.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one sister: Susie Mae Godfrey and three brothers: Cal Godfrey, Everett Godfrey and James Godfrey.
She leaves to remember her beautiful life, her loving husband of 17 years, Joe Williams, who remained devoted to the end; one daughter: Renee Crawford (Larry) of Valdosta; one son: Gregory Godfrey (Alfa) of New Jersey; three sisters: Doris Ponder and Velma Eady (Leroy) of Valdosta and Annie Ruth Charlton (Stanley) of Melbourne, FL; one brother: Herbert Godfrey (Rose) of Valdosta; five grand daughters; one grandson; three great-grandchildren; one aunt: Mabel Godfrey; five sisters-in-law: Lorene Godfrey, Martha Ann Brooks (Pastor Willie), Joann Williams, Minnie Carter and Omie Jean Haynes (Rev. T.J.); five brothers-in-law: Harold Williams, Danny Williams, Michael Williams, Bobby Williams and Ralph Williams; her best friend: Rosetta Chandler; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and co-workers who will remember her laughter and kind words.
The homegoing celebration for Mrs. Betty Lou Godfrey Williams will be held Saturday, November 24, 2010 at 11:00am from the sanctuary of Southside Church of Christ.
Bro. John Iverson is the minister.
Bro. Herman Godfrey will officiate.
Burial will follow at the Charles Knight Cemetery in Lakeland, GA.
