Carroll Manse Johnson was born January 27, 1942, in Valdosta, GA, to the late Thomas A. and the late Ruby Davis Johnson.
Carroll was a very loving, supportive, and nonjudgmental man. He was down to earth—knew no strangers. He never complained about anything. Instead, because of his mountainous faith, he would boast about how God has always carried him through. His laughter was one of the funniest and memorable laughters we know of. Even when it became difficult for him to breathe, he always managed to laugh hard and loud.
One of Carroll’s favorite sayings was: “Something from nothing leaves nothing.” When asked, “How do you feel Daddy?” his response, “GREAT”, I feel Good!” If you asked him how to deal with a situation, he’d pose these questions: “You been reading ya bible? You praying?” And then respond, “and when you put it on the altar, LEAVE IT THERE! Stop going back to pick it up!”
On Monday, September 23, 2019, Carroll was granted eternal rest.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty R. Johnson; two sons: Carroll D. Johnson and Barren A. Johnson; ten siblings; and a significant companion: Shirley A. Arnold.
Carroll leaves precious memories to his children: Derrick Johnson, Tangela L Dennis, Carlo Johnson, Malinda Riggins (Brian), Randall Johnson, and Lakeshia Johnson, Carroll Johnson (Renee Johnson); step-children: Randy Arnold (Diondra), Felices King (Fredrick) Shirley Hill (Willie), Valerie Belcher (Terry), and George Arnold; two sisters: Gwendolyn Harris and Mildred Sawyer; forty-five grandchildren; forty-seven great grandchildren; special nieces and nephews: Sharon, Janiece, Billy and Harold; a great grand niece: Samantha; his Westside family and friends; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
