Charles "Pop" Landon Butler was born on June 15, 1936 to his loving parents, the late Richard Butler and the late Grace Butler in Sumter, South Carolina.
He grew up on a farm and attended Queen Chapel grade school and graduated from Ebenezer High School in June, 1954.
At an early age, Charles accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior and attended Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. He migrated to New Jersey where he reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Janie Dyson and they were married in 1962. To this union, two children were born, Ronald Charles and Cheryl Marie.
Charles lived and worked in Rahway, NJ for over forty years and attended Second Baptist Church in his later years, until relocating to Valdosta, GA and later joining Southland Church in Valdosta.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Moon.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of forty nine years: Janie L. Butler; one son: Ronald (Wendy) Butler of Valdosta, GA; one daughter: Cheryl (Kareem) Draper of Roselle, NJ; three sisters: Rovena Brunson of Willingboro, NJ, Martha Ann Wilson of Jersey City, NJ, and Dorothy (Willie) Morant of Hampton, VA; two sisters in-law: Emma D. Reid and Edith Friday; three brothers in-law: James (Nancy) Dyson, Henry (Betty) Dyson and Harvey L. (Mazerrine) Dyson; a best friend: Hope Davis; four grandchildren: Lamont K. Draper, Tameka J. Butler, Shelby J. Butler and Rachel Lee Butler; and host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The homegoing celebration for Mr. Butler will be held Saturday, August 20,2011 at 2:00pm from the sanctuary of Southland Church. Pastor Martin Collins will officiate. Burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
