Clara Sherman Braswell, 83, of Valdosta, Georgia passed away at Heritage House Nursing Home. She was attended by United Hospice in this facility. On February 9, 2011 she went home to be with her heavenly Father. She was born in Boston, Georgia on October 2, 1927. She was married to the late James B. Braswell for 43 years. This marriage was blessed with five children. Clara was a faithful member of the Woodlawn Forrest Church of Christ. She held several jobs during her life including the South Georgia Pecan Factory, CNA at Crestwood Nursing Home and as a foster grandparent with Lomax/Pinevale school. She was educated in the public school system of Brooks County.
Clara was the daughter of the late Julius and Allie Mae Sherman and was one of nine children. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Simmons and Leola Edwards, a brother, Jimmie Lee Sherman and one son, Jimmie Lee Braswell (Linda). She is survived by four children, James Braswell (Ruby), Mary Savage (Charles), William Braswell (Edwina), and Troy Braswell (Lisa). She has five surviving siblings, Julia Brandon (Eugene), Robert Sherman (Ruby), Earnestine Wynn (Woody), Bertha Unless and Eddie Clifford Sherman. She is also survived by one great-aunt Retha Tyler and a large number of grandchildren, great-grand children, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, Feb.19 at 11am. Elder Leroy Butler will officiate. Burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
