Claretha P. McKennon was born to the late Mr. James Mills and the late Mrs. Willola Ellis, March 03, 1936 in Lloyd, FL.
She was baptized and added to the body of Christ under the leadership of Bro. Harvey Jackson.
Claretha, fondly known as “Putt”, was a mentor, confidant and friend, someone on whose love you could depend. She was deeply committed to her family and loved her children. Through “Claretha’s Boot Camp”, her children were taught how to take care of each other, how to be strong and independent. She kept her house “eat off the floor clean!” Though a tough disciplinarian, Claretha was also gentle and a comedian. Upon birth, “Putt” would give every grandchild a nickname. She was an amazing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother—one of life’s best gifts, a treasure like no other.
The Lord gently called her to eternal rest, Monday, October 21, 2013.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one son: Morris Hall; one brother: Morris Hall; two brothers in-law: Henry Livingston and Richard Thomas; and one sister in-law: Dorothy Pride.
Claretha leaves to cherish memories: seven children: Jesse Hall (Donna) of Valdosta, GA; Barbara Mathis (Eddie) of Atlanta, GA; Nathaniel Hall of Valdosta, GA; Tony Hall of Gainesville, FL; Darlene Moore of Valdosta, GA; Joyce Coar (Ronald) of Atlanta, GA and Lynn Johnson (Carlton) of Valdosta, GA; two sisters: Elosie Livingston of Greenville, FL, and Odessa Thomas of Las Vegas, NV; one brother: Joe Terry Pride of Valdosta, GA; sixteen grandchildren; twenty seven great-grandchildren; special friend: Katherine Young; god-daughter: Teresa James; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The homegoing celebration for Mrs. Claretha P. McKennon will be held Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 1:00pm from the sanctuary of Southside Church of Christ.
Bro. John W. Iverson Sr. will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
