Ms. Cleo Wiggs Thomas

On Thursday, January 30, 2014 around 8:15pm, while listening to “Amazing Grace” softly on her pillow, God called Cleo and said, “don’t be afraid” and she gently answered her Father’s call.

Cleo which means “popularity and glorious”, was born December 1, 1945, to Mrs. Elmira Wiggs and the late Mr. Willie Rushing. She began her Christian journey at a very young age at the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. She graduated from Pinevale High School in 1964. She later married Melvin Thomas and to that union one child was born, who was the love of her life till death.

Cleo worked for Dr. J. H. Brannon for 20 years. Her years of service included, the Langdale Place, Valdosta Medical Associates, Home Health Services and Heritage Healthcare.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents; three aunts; two uncles; father: Mr. Willie Rushing; one brother: Willie James Wiggs; step-father: Mr. Gus West; one granddaughter: Ms. Elmira Thomas and two god-fathers: George Phillips and Gus Homer.

She leaves to cherish her memory her mother: Mrs. Elmira W. West; her son: SM1 (SW) Michael D. Thomas (retired) (Charissee), four granddaughters: Nicole Newsome, Sariah Thomas, Arneisha Thomas and Mychaela Thomas; two grandsons: Markevian and Michael Jones; three sisters: Rhudene Morgan (Jewel), Jeralene Wiggs, and Earnestine Gardner; one brother: Clarence Wiggs (Eddie Mae); three great-grandchildren: Zaleesia Newsome, Christian “Curly” Parker and Caleb “Moe” Parker; god-parents: Mrs. Christine Phillips and Mrs. Authoreen Homer; her extended family: the Moore family, the Crawford family, Mr. Sam Allen and the Allen family, Mrs. Mildred Johnson; best friends: Mrs. Cathleen J. Bradley, Mrs. Leona Barnes, Mrs. Dorothy Bell, Mrs. Fairie L. Tooley, Mr. Willie Rayford and Mrs. Margaret Johnson, the Pinevale High School Class of 1964, the Heritage Healthcare Staff; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The homegoing celebration for the late Ms. Cleo W. Thomas will be held Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 11:00am from the sanctuary of Morning Star Baptist Church.

Dr. William C. Morgan is the pastor.

Pastor Ronnie Brinson will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Riverview Memorial Gardens.
