Mr. Clifford Mercer, Sr.

Clifford Mercer Sr. was born December 12, 1936, in Statesboro, GA, to the late Fred and Beatrice Mercer.

Mr. Clifford was a hard-working man. Wanting to show the importance of having good work ethics to his children, he retired from Creasy Well Drilling after forty plus years of employment.

Mr. Clifford never met a stranger. He had a heart of gold. All of the neighborhood children loved him. He was a man of understanding and compassion. He loved his family and worked hard to provide their needs. He was indeed their hero. His family will always remember his special smile and his caring heart.

On Wednesday, September 20, 2017, Clifford was granted eternal rest.

In addition to his parents, his was preceded in death by his wife: Annie Frazier Mercer; one son: Sinclair Holt; one sister: Mary Loue Johnson; and two brothers: Harvey Mercer and Willie Mercer.

Mr. Clifford leaves to cherish great memories, his three children: Pamela Mercer, Clifford Mercer, Jr. and Virginia Hatchett; his two sisters; Vernita Perkins and Ruby Mincey; one surviving brother; Troy Mercer; one aunt: Viola Mae Mercer; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; one brother-in-law; special friends: Eula Arnold, Bessie Evans, Truese, Jeffery Frazier, Mr. Tommy and Bessie Manning; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends


The celebration of life for the late Mr. Clifford Mercer, Sr. will be held Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11:00am from the sanctuary of Morning Star Baptist Church.

Dr. William C. Morgan will officiate.

Interment will follow in Pallbearers Cemetery.

Public viewing will be held Friday, September 29, from 10:00am - 8:00pm at Godfrey Funeral Home.
