Csm Willie R. Houston

September 1, 1939 — February 2, 2018

CSM Willie R. Houston was born September 1, 1939, in Lakeland, GA, to the late Mr. Ree Houston and the late Mrs. Willie Mae Moore Houston.

Upon completion of high school, CSM Willie R. Houston answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Army. His life was a true reflection of the U.S. Army Soldier’s Creed by which all Soldiers live: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. These principles define who Soldiers are and who they aspire to become. While serving his country, he was rewarded with many
decorations, campaign ribbons and medals to include but not limited to: The National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal .

After enduring hardness as a good soldier CSM Willie R. Houston returned home to answer yet another call—to serve his family and friends. He was a great role model in his community and in the lives of young people by encouraging them to spread their wings and fly.

On Friday, February 2, 2018, CSM Houston knew beyond the shadow of a doubt that he had fought a good fight, finished his course and his time of departure was at hand and he was ready to be offered up. Ever so gently to him it appeared he could hear, “day is done, gone the sun, from the lake, from the hills, from the sky. All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.”

In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Charlie Mae McCrae, Jessie Mae Pierce, Carolyn Moore and Winnie Ruth Gloster and his brother: Fredell Brewer.
CSM Willie R. Houston leaves his legacy of a purpose driven life to his wife: Marilyn Houston of Valdosta, GA; four children : James Houston and Willette Houston, both of Morgantown, WV, Cecelia Godfrey (Xavier, Sr.) of Valdosta, GA and LaCressa Morrow of Atlanta, GA; two sisters: Vernell Curry and Janice Gordon (Tony), both of Lakeland, GA; eight sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

The Celebration of Life for the late CSM Willie R. Houston will be held Saturday, February 10, 2018, at 11:00am in the Godfrey Funeral Home Chapel.

Dr. William C. Morgan will officiate.

Interment will follow in Charles Knight Cemetery, Lakeland, GA.
