Curtis Tyrone (Smoke/Tough Ty) Williams, Sr. of Valdosta, Georgia, was born April 8, 1959 to the late Matthew Williams and the late Myrtice Roberts Williams.
He graduated from Valdosta High School and was recruited to play football for the University of Tennessee at Martin, where he joined the “Foot Frat” Fraternity and picked up the nick name “Tough Ty.” Curtis left college to enter the United States Army and proudly served his country for 21 years. After retiring from the military, Curtis was reacquainted with his high school crush and was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Erma Jean Haynes, 35 years later.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Christian Love Bible Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by one brother: David Williams, Sr.; his daughter: Kayla Williams, and his grandparents: Annie Mae and Willie Roberts; Lela and Efford Williams, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Erma Jean Williams, one daughter; Andrea Williams of Decatur GA; four sons: Rasheem (Princess) Triplett of Oakland, CA, Curtis Williams, Jr. of Augusta, GA, Darius and Ed’Ricus Williams both of Warrenton GA.; Two Stepsons: Cameron and Cornell Venus of Valdosta GA.; two brothers: Matthew Williams, Jr. (Deborah) of Valdosta, and Jeffery Williams (Dora) of Ray City; Three sisters: Joan Williams Graham and Laverne Williams Jones (Alvin) of Valdosta, GA, and Evelyn Williams Swift of Hampton, GA; one brother-in-law: Amos Haynes of Valdosta; a mother-in-law: Ruth Lane; four sister-in-laws: Willie Pearl Phillips, Theresa Stewart, Annie Ruth Haslem of Valdosta, and Patricia Manning of Fort Worth, TX; one goddaughter: McKenzie Thomas of Stockbridge, GA; one grandson: TeAndre Triplett of Oakland, CA; special nephew: Edwin Gordon (Sheila) of Columbia SC; special friends: Larry Johnson, Terry Sims, Jerry Beard, Willie Richardson and Adrian Trent; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
The celebration of life for the late Mr. Curtis Tyrone Williams, Sr., will be held Sunday, July 27, 2014, at 2:00p.m., from the sanctuary of Christian Love Bible Baptist Church, 526 Griffin Avenue, Valdosta, GA.
Pastor Jimmy Boyd will officiate.
Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens.
Public viewing will be held Saturday, July 26, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Godfrey Funeral Home Chapel.
