Deacon L.C. “ Joe” Jones, son of the late Tommy Lee McGowan and the late Mamie Jones, was born October 17, 1935 in Lowndes County, Georgia.
He retired from Holox Oxygen Company after 30 years of employment. He later became self employed and started his own company, Jones Pulpwood and Logging.
L. C. Jones, fondly known as “Joe” by his family and friends, loved fishing.
Deacon Jones was a faithful member of Good Hope Christian Church until his health failed.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son: Lamar Jones and a host of sisters and brothers.
He leaves to cherish his memories Mrs. Willie Mae Woods Jones, his wife of 52 years whom he loved dearly; his children: Charles (Rosetta) Jones of Pensacola, FL, Ernest Jones, Mitchell Jones, Valerie Martin and Jarvis (Keira) Jones, all of Valdosta, GA; one sister: Hattie Mae Brown of Valdosta, GA; one brother: Mack (Cletha) McGowan of Valdosta, GA; Sixteen Grandchildren; Nineteen Great-Grandchildren; Two Great Great - Grandchildren; Seven Sisters in-law; One Brother in-Law; Special Friends: Charles McEady, John Henry Jones and Rev. Claude Williams; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The homegoing celebration for Deacon L.C. Jones will be held Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 1:00pm from the sanctuary of Greater Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
Dr. Charles E. Vinson, Sr. will officiate.
Burial will follow at the Harrington Rest Cemetery.
