Deacon Theotis Pitts

November 15, 1939 — February 5, 2017

Mr. Theotis Pitts, son of Mrs. Gladys Hills Pitts and the late Reverend Otis C. Pitts, was born November 15, 1939, in Adel, GA. He attended the public schools of Cook County and was a graduate of Cook County Training School of Cecil, GA.

At an early age, he professed his faith in Jesus Christ at Sand Hills Baptist Church in Cecil, GA. Later in life, he joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully as Chairman of Deacons, the Board of Trustees and a member of the Gospel Choir. He was united in holy matrimony to Mary Ellis James, January 16, 1961. This union was blessed with two lovely daughters.

Theotis Pitts retired from Owens Illinois/PCA in Clyattville, GA, after forty plus years of dedicated service. He was owner and operator of Pitts Bar-B-Que.

He quietly departed this life Sunday, February 5, 2017, at South Georgia Medical Center. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his grandparents: Culpepper and Alberta Pitts along with McKinley and Viola Hill.

His amazing life will forever be cherished in the lives of his devoted wife: Mrs. Mary Ellis Pitts; two daughters: Muriel Morrison (James, Jr.) of Valdosta, GA and Tonya Pitts of Decatur, GA; grandson: Jerod Morrison (Tiwanna); his six great-grandchildren: Felicity, Sha’khia, Octavius Jr., JaMaya, Jacari, and JaRyah; one sister: Anita Gosier; his two brothers: Marshall Pitts, Sr. (Carol) of Fayetteville, NC and Wayne Pitts (Earline) of Decatur, GA; brothers-in-law: Eugene Williams (Jennifer), Benjamin Williams, Rufus Williams (Valisa), Lawrence Williams (Helen), Ellis Woods, Jr., Samuel Woods, Robert Woods (Cathy); sisters-in-law: Bessie Roberts (Michael), Faye Williams, Harriett Woods and Mary Copeland; two uncles: James Hill and Roy Lee White; three aunts: Mary Wilson, Leola Hill, and Ida Lee Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The celebration of life for the late Deacon Theotis Pitts will be held Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 11:00am from the sanctuary of First Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

Rev. Albert L. Barfield is the pastor and will officiate.

Interment will follow in Pallbearers Cemetery.
