Deacon Zack Tonsil, Jr. was born October 13,1946, in Quitman, Georgia, to the late Zack Tonsil, Sr. and the late Cassie Brown Tonsil.
Zack Tonsil, Jr. was educated in the Valdosta City School System. He attended Pinevale High School and was a proud member of the 1963 State Championship Football team and graduated with the Class of 1965. After graduating from Pinevale High School, he answered the call of his nation and enlisted in the United States Army and was later honorably discharged.
Deacon Tonsil was a faithful husband and father. He cared for his wife and children well. Forever thoughtful, he was full of loving deeds. Deacon Tonsil was a well respected man of integrity. He demonstrated that he was committed to the mystery of the faith by serving the congregation of Day Spring Baptist Church for over 49years and was faithful in everything he did. His conduct as a deacon was consistent with his beliefs.
On Tuesday, January 22, 2019, Deacon Zack Tonsil, Jr. finished his course and entered into his Master’s joy.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded by his loving and devoted wife, the late Sis. Gloria Ann Lewis Tonsil; one brother: Thurman Tonsil and one sister: Norma Jean Tonsil.
Deacon Zack Tonsil, Jr,, leaves a legacy of faith and love to his children whom he adored: Minister Trellany Tonsil of Baltimore, MD, Cassie Warren (Keith) of Valdosta, GA, and Zack Tonsil, III (Tavasha) of Savannah, GA; two sisters: Lil Johnson (Carl) and Elmira Carter, both of Valdosta, GA; one brother: Wallace Charles Holsendolph (Addie) of Valdosta, GA; three grandchildren: his special caregiver, Jamayah Tonsil; Brendan Tonsil and Bria Tonsil; sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary Barron, Jessie Willis, Mary McCutchen, Willie H. Lewis (Shirley), Albert Lewis (Myrtle), and Reuben Lee; special friends: Freddie Joiner (Ann), Sylvester Hobbs, Deacon John and Associate Pastor, Iris Brown; his Day Spring Baptist Church family; and host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The Celebration of Life for the late Deacon Zack Tonsil Jr., will be Saturday, January 26, 2019, 2:00 p.m., Day Spring Baptist Church, 615 Dasher Lane, Valdosta, GA.
Reverend Phillip B. Corker is pastor and will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Pallbearers Cemetery, Valdosta.
Public viewing, Friday, January 25, 2019, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Godfrey Funeral Home.
