Deaconess Mable Jones Lewis

July 11, 1938 — October 13, 2014

Mable Jones Lewis was born July 11, 1938 in Ousley, GA to the late Katie Bell Jones and the late Garfield Jones, Jr.

She was educated in the Valdosta City Schools and was a proud member of the Pinevale High School graduating class of 1958. She later married the late Deacon Collie Joe Lewis, Sr., to this union five children were born.

After 36years of faithful service, she retired from LARC Services. Deaconess Lewis was a blessing to all that knew her. She stretched out her hand to the poor and reached out her hands to the needy. Strength and honor were her clothing. She opened her mouth with wisdom and in her tongue was the law of kindness. She looked well to the ways of her household. Her children arise up, and call her blessed. She was the best mother ever!

Deaconess Lewis was a very dedicated member of Greater Pleasant Temple Baptist Church where she served in many capacities: Choir Member, Youth Director, Deaconess, Field Missionary, Senior Mission Ministry, Bible Teacher, and a member of the Young in Christ ministry. Her owns works praised her in the gates.

On Monday, October 13, 2014, the Father proudly declared to his daughter, “well done good and faithful servant, enter now into the joy of the Lord.”

She leaves her legacy of faith to her children: Co-Pastor Collie Jean Alexander (Glenn), of Valdosta, GA, Phyllis Elaine Lewis of Valdosta, GA, Rev. Sharol Denise Hampton of Bellmawr, NJ, Janice Elizabeth Duncan of Valdosta, GA, and Collie Joe Lewis, Jr., of Valdosta, GA; two sisters: Annie Bell Pierce of Jersey City, NJ and Rosa Mae Parker (Willie Frank) of Valdosta, GA; three brothers: Rev. Joseph Jones (Rev. Anne Rea) of Jersey City, NJ, Mozel Jones (Lillie) of Cleveland, OH and William Jones (Patricia) of Valdosta, GA; sisters and brothers in-law: Willie B. Lewis Sr., Sarah Guyton, and Willard Guyton, Jr.; fifteen grandchildren: Glenn, Shantel (Corey), Cantina, Eddie, Travis, Christina, Johnetta (Carl), Eric, Nikita, Andrew, Selwyn, Andrea, Jarvis, Danielle, and Daniel; twelve great-grandchildren; and a hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, LARC Services, Tammy Williams, and her Greater Pleasant Temple Church family.

The celebration of life for the late Deaconess Mable Jones Lewis will be held Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 2:00pm from the sanctuary of Pleasant Temple Baptist Church.

Pastor Bernard Robinson Sr. will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
