It is with deepest sympathy Godfrey Funeral Home announces Mrs. Dorothy Mae Burgman, age 82, departed this life Monday, May 31, 2021, at South Georgia Medical Center, Valdosta, GA.
Dorothy was born July 27, 1938 in Lowndes County, Ga to the late Mr. Elmore and Dellis Young. She lived 82 wonderful years!
Dorothy was married to Mr. Joseph Lee Burgman for 65 years. They were blessed with one son, Joe Lee Burgman (Rose), and two daugh-ters, Rosella King (Arthur) and Melissa Brooks (DeMonte’).
Dorothy was a faithful member of St. Mark Baptist Church where she served as an usher and a beloved Mother of the church.
Dorothy worked at Snow’s Laundry and Levi Strauss for many years, and the Heritage House Nursing Home for 17 years, as supervisor of Housekeeping and Dietary Department.
Dorothy was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She loved to have fun and travel. Her faith, strength and tenacity was like no other. She was feisty and not afraid to speak her mind. She was loved, respected and honored by many. She loved her family and friends whole heartedly.
She was proceeded in death by her brothers Eddie Young, Sr., Ozell Young, Sr., Leroy Young, Thomas James (TJ) Young, Freddie Young and one sister, Annie Francis Young. Her living siblings are Ms. Margaret Belcher, Ms. Flora Homer, and Ms. Mary Mitchell.
She leaves to cherish her memories, three children, Joe Burgman, Rose King and Melissa Brooks. Four grandchildren, Valarie Norton (Pete), Kenyatta Rodriguez (Alex), Latoya Wilson (Mark) and Ayannah Brooks. Seven great-grandchildren, Janecia Whitlock, Thomas (Trey) Scarbrough III, Imari Rodriguez, Daijah Rodriguez, Mark Wilson II, Malaya Wilson, and Matthew Wilson; Four great-great-grandchildren, Gabriella (Gabby) Brown, Isabella (Bella) Whitlock, Calani Baker, and Camille Baker, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sister-in-laws, and her best friends, Ms. Minnie Hickey and Sabrina Lane
Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, June 5th, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at graveside in the Harrington Rest Cemetery in Delmar, GA.
Dr. John H. Manning will officiate.
Public viewing will be Friday, June 4th, 2021, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Godfrey Funeral Home.
