Edward (Billy) Woods

Mr. Edward "Billy" Woods, age 63 of Valdosta, passed on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011 at the South Georgia Medical Center.

Edward “Billy” Woods, 63, began his eternal life on February 06, 2011. He was born on November 12, 1947 to the late Persell and Verneda Woods in Delmar, GA.

He was married to his friend and sweetheart of 40 years, Loretha. Together they raised two wonderful children, Michael and Ramonia.

Edward was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, who was not only deeply committed to his family but to his career, friendships, community involvement and church service. Above all else, Edward was a lifetime fan of the Lowndes County Vikings.

If a theme was to be placed on Edward’s life it would be “Live every moment, Laugh everyday and Love beyond words.”

The family of Mr. Edward “Billy” Woods would like to express a special thank you to the Brookfield Academy, the Scruggs Company, and the Boardwalk.

His precious memories and wisdom will forever linger in the hearts of his wife, Loretha; children, Michael (Kourtney) Woods of Murfreesboro, TN, and Ramonia (Isaac) Odom of Kingsland, GA; Siblings: Lelar Aikens (Macon, GA), Willie Mae (Joe) Jones, Francis Armstrong, and Sherman Woods of Valdosta, GA, and Evelyn James of Killeen, TX; a sister-in-law, Ophelia Woods of Valdosta, GA; two aunts, Eula Godfrey and Arena Woods of Valdosta, GA, and one uncle, Artis Sharper (Lilly) of Valdosta, GA; two special friends, John Henry Jones and Owen “June” Carter of Valdosta, GA; six grandchildren, six sisters-in-law, and four brothers-in-law; and a host of sorrowing family, friends and his church family. Edward was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, LaVerne Woods and Willie Springfield.

Funeral services for Mr. Edward “Billy” Woods, will be on Saturday February 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the sanctuary of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 4541 St. Mark Church Road, Naylor, GA. Pastor John H. Manning, Sr. will be officiating and interment will follow in the Charles Knight Cemetery, Lakeland, GA. Public viewing will be today from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sympathy may be expressed by signing the online registry at www.godfreyfuneralhome.net.
