“I have fought the fight, I have finished my course. I have kept the faith.”
Elder Daniel H. Lewis was born February 22, 1920 in Leesburg, FL. He was the oldest of three children. He later moved to Florence Villa (Winter Haven, FL) and joined the U.S. Navy. After dutifully serving his country, Elder Lewis returned to Winter Haven and became very active in the community and church where he accepted the Lord as his personal Savior and was baptized with the Holy Ghost.
The Lord graced him to find his good thing, his wife, Johnnie Mae Lewis. To this union, five children were born. After receiving and accepting his call into the ministry, he moved to Valdosta, GA. He initially set up a tent in Valdosta and conducted revivals where many souls were saved. The Lord moved in a mighty way through his evangelism. He became the founder and pastor of The Church of God by Faith in Valdosta, served as pastor for many churches in the South Georgia District and served faithfully in several capacities. It was not an easy task transitioning to this mighty call of God; but he knew that he could do all things through Christ who strengthened him. Deacon Clarence Williams, a special friend, along with others were always there to encourage and uplift him when challenges seem to have been sometimes unbeatable.
Elder Lewis truly loved his wife, his children and his church. The sacrifices he made were great and many; always willing to give his time, service and finances to the glory of God. Elder Lewis was humble, loyal, considerate of others and dependable; a true soldier for the Lord.
He departed this life Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 10:30am.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers: Archie Lewis and Fred Lewis.
