Valdosta

But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, The Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body, to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.” (Philippians 3:20-21 ESV)

Sunrise: February 11, 1971, 2:30 A.M.

Mr. Eric Lowell Castleberry, the only child of Cynthia Roberts Castleberry and Master Gunnery Sergeant Wilbur E. Castleberry, Jr., was born at the Naval Air Station Hospital in Albany, GA. Eric’s early years were spent growing up in Jacksonville, North Carolina and later Indianapolis, Indiana. After matriculating through the Valdosta City and Lowndes County School systems, he worked in various professions. While living in Detroit, MI, he realized his life-long dream of becoming a long distance truck driver. After returning to Valdosta, he continued driving trucks and in later years worked as an auto mechanic and assembly lineman. As a young child, Eric attended Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Hahira, GA, where he learned that if he heeded the Lord’s call and accepted Christ as his personal Savior, he would be saved, and his name would be written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. While living in Adel, GA, Eric joined Covington Baptist Church and was baptized under the pastorate of Rev. C.W. Covington. In later years, he joined New Life Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Larry D. Manning, Sr. During the course of his illness, Eric rededicated his life to Christ, reaffirming heaven as his final destination. Eric was a warm and caring person who befriended everyone he met. As a young child, he would bring children home and introduce them as “My Friend.” He had a ready smile, loved his family, and enjoyed “fixing” things, especially cars.
