Floyd Carter was born December 23, 1918, in Hahira, GA, to the late Mr. Paige Carter and the late Mrs. Carrie Carter. Floyd received his early education while attending Red Flag Elementary School.
Instead of attending high school, Floyd answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Army where he served for 2 years which included fighting in battle during World War II. The Army trained Floyd how to stand firm on what he believed in. If he did not agree with something, his two phrases were, “ I don’t think that’s right” or “I don’t know about that.” After being discharged from the Army, he decided to live in Detroit, MI and became employed by Chrysler Corporation, where he received several awards and certificates. He remained gainfully employed until his retirement.
While being retired, Floyd answered the call of nature and developed a passion for farming and hunting. Floyd’s love for farming, raising chickens, and setting traps for a good catch was a true reflection of the Farmer’s Creed which states that hard work and honest sweat are the building blocks of a person’s character and despites the hardships and disappointments, the most honest and honorable way a person can spend their days on earth is farming.
On Wednesday, March 27, Floyd answered yet another call — “day is done, gone the sun, from the lake, from the hills, from the sky. All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: sister: Annie Mae Bucker and his brother: Roy Carter.
Floyd leaves cherished memories to his wife: Harriett Bookhart Carter and his only son: Lewis Carter (Starlene) of Miramar, Florida; three grandchildren: William Craig Belchie (Diane) of Atlanta, Georgia, Sophia Carter of Lauderhill, Florida and Tammy Carter Eubanks (Wayne) of Miami, Florida; his three great-grandchildren: William Mark Belchie of Atlanta, Georgia and Daniel and Lenay Carter, both of Miami, Florida and host of extended family and his friends.
