Freddie Young

March 12, 1950 — May 11, 2013

On March 12, 1950 in Lowndes County, Georgia, a sweet baby boy was born to the late Elmore and Dellis Tehart Young. They chose to name him, Freddie Young.

Freddie attended Wetherington Robinson School and graduated from Westside High School.

At an early age, this young lad knew he needed a Savior and accepted Christ and became a member of the St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church.

When Freddie was a child, he spoke, understood and thought as a child; but when he became a man, he put away childish things. He was a hard worker and a man of integrity. He did not believe in “half doin” anything. Once he had his mind made up about completing a task, he would not give up until the job was done and was done right! He worked several different jobs early in life, but the one job Freddie truly loved the best was his employment at Reames & Sons Construction where he was employed for over 40 years.

Freddie loved life and the people whom he came in contact with.

On May 11, 2013, the Lord softly and proudly spoke to his son and said, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers: Eddie Young, Sr whom he loved dearly and Rev. Ozell Young, Sr. and a sister he adored: Annie F. Young.

Freddie leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 38 years, Christine Jackson Young; five children: Erron Young (Tina), Chelses Carter (Timothy), Shanah Riley (Chad), all of Valdosta, GA, Freddrick Young (Nikki) of Lake Park, GA and Jessica Francois (Gerard) of Atlanta, GA; four sisters: Dorothy Burgman (Joseph), Margaret Belcher (Marvin), Flora Homer and Mary Mitchell (David); two brothers: Thomas Young and Leroy Young; brothers in-law: Bobby Jackson (Betty), Clyde Jackson (Ella), Roosevelt Jackson (Lois), Nathan Jackson and Richard Jackson; sisters in-law: Bertha Brown, Linda Mapps (David), Irene Cody (Cary), Carolyn Green (Mike), Angela Stokes (Travis) and Dione Wilson (Charles); 14 grandchildren: Johnathan, Kevin, Erika, Arriel, Joseph, Courtney, Marvayah, Triston, Marvin, Queen, Khole, Nadijah and Zakoby; Reames & Son Const. Co., St. Mark MBC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

The homegoing celebration for Mr. Freddie Young will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 11:00am from the sanctuary of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church.

Dr. John Manning will officiate.

Interment will follow at the Harrington Rest Cemetery.

Public viewing will be held at Godfrey Funeral Home on Friday, May 17, during the hours of 10am and 8pm.
