George Henry Stripling Jr., was born September 13, 1938 in Lowndes County, Georgia, to the late Fannie Mae Strickland Stripling and the late George Henry Stripling, Sr.
He was educated in the Valdosta City School System and was a proud member of the Pinevale High School graduating Class of 1957. He was employed by Barnes Drug Store for over 58 years and was a community worker for Advancing Valdosta Inc.
George H. Stripling Jr. was a man of integrity. Living the motto, “a man is only good as his word”. All who knew him will agree, he was dependable, courteous and honest. He opened his mouth with wisdom and his tongue was the law of kindness. George was also a great historian! Anything you needed to know about the city of Valdosta and the good ole days, George could tell you all about it.
He was a faithful member of St. Timothy A.M.E. Church, where he served in many capacities: Class Leader, Pastor Aide, Usher Board, Trustee Board, Steward Board, Finance Committee, faithful member of Sunday School, member of the Lay Organization and a Son of Allen. He truly loved the Lord with all of his heart, mind, body and soul.
The Lord granted his faithful servant eternal rest, Thursday, September 25, 2014.
George H. Stripling Jr., leaves his legacy of love to his wife of 48 years, Queen E. Stripling of Valdosta, GA; his son: Cletis Clark (Jacqueline) of Virginia Beach, VA; one sister: Gloria Stripling Ryan of Valdosta, GA; one sister in-law: Wilma Baker; two special cousins: Elizabeth Sharp and Fred Washington of Valdosta, GA; four nieces: Sylvia Rayford, Patricia Berry, Helen Holmes and Diane H. Smith, all of Valdosta, GA; three special nephews: Darryl B. Smith of Patterson, NJ, Vernon Baker of Valdosta, GA and Derrick Baker of Vero Beach, FL; three godchildren: Gregory Wiseman, Avis Wilson and LaTasha Jackson, all of Valdosta, GA; long time neighbor and friend: Lowe Wilson; his Barnes Drug Store family and a host of family and friends.
The celebration of life for the late Mr. George Henry Stripling Jr. will be held Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 2:00pm from the sanctuary of St. Timothy AME Church.
Rev. Nathaniel Brown will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
