Ms. Helen Louise Gosier

Helen Gosier was born October 4, 1946, in Valdosta, GA. She was the eldest of 11 children born to the late Henry Gosier, Sr. and Lena Gosier. She went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 21, 2016.

Helen received her education in the Valdosta, GA, public schools, graduating from Pinevale High School in 1964. Helen worked faithfully for Levi Strauss, retiring after 28 years of service. Additionally, Helen was an adamant helper in the Valdosta community. She volunteered for many years as a ‘Pink Lady” at the South Georgia Medical Center as well as the South Side Recreation Center as a voting poll inspector during elections. She was one of the founders of the Valdez Social Club back in the early 1970’s and a member of the Essence Club for many years. She served as the Treasurer on the 1964 call reunion committee. Helen’s ideal day of consisted of visiting her mother, watching the Food Network, baking scrumptious cakes, with the pound cake being the most popular, and talking on the telephone to family and friends.

Helen was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ at a young age. She served as a faithful member of St. Timothy A.M.E. Church dedicating her time to serve on the Board of Trustees and the committee for Vacation Bible School. Moreover, with a servant’s heart, she blessed others through her giving by assisting with the annual Thanksgiving food drives.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one sister: Pauline and one brother: Paul.

She leaves to cherish her memory: Her loving mother: Lena Bell Gosier; Four children: Bernard (Sabrinna), Tracy (James), Pamela, Travis; Special granddaughter that she raised, Nicole: Two sisters: Diane (David) and Aliene (Fredrick); Six brothers: Henry Jr., Wesley, Nathaniel, Bobby Lee (Nancy), Chester, and Levester (Henrietta); 16 grandchildren: Carlos (Kristie), Akeem, Kenold, Katlyn, Trayonna, Ebony (Desmond), Keizian, Marcus, Victor, Latre’ (Kenneth), Attallah, Bernard, Jr., Jeremias, Katlyn, Kehmya. Traquon; great-grandchildren: Sedrionna, Braylon, Carter, Koven, Kayla, Shenika, Kallen, Jayln, Caylee, Vincent Jr., Siah, Zoey, Katrene and Victoria; Five aunts: Dorothy Dorsey, Gloria Bullard, Arlene Bullard, Lena McKinnin, and Lizzie Drew; One uncle: Wesley Gosier; Four special godchildren: Cynthia Williams, Tanyeka Doe, Daphne Brown, and Brent Gardner; five special friends: Betty Graham, Johnnie Ruth Hunter, Jean Barr, Katie Wilson and Janice Thomas, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

The celebration of life for the late Ms. Helen Louise Gosier will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11:00am from the sanctuary of St. Timothy AME.

Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens.

Public viewing will be held Friday, September 30, from noon until 8:00pm in the Godfrey Funeral Home Chapel.
