Mrs. Helen Louise Williams

July 9, 1931 — August 12, 2017

Helen Louise Williams was born July 9, 1931, in Valdosta, GA, to the late Wisby Collins, Sr. and the late Ruth Parker Collins.

To ensure the needs of her family was met, she worked willingly with her hands at Levi Strauss Company where she later retired.

Helen was fondly called, “Sunshine” because of her beautiful smile. She created an inviting atmosphere of warmth and love for her family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers. Her house was the “neighborhood house.” Her house was filled with love and much laughter. Helen had quite a sense of humor. In her presence was fullness of joy. She possessed a gentle and loving spirit. Helen had a inner beauty that only comes from Christ

Recognizing the importance of having God in her life, Helen was a long-time member of St. Paul AME Church. She served God with all of her heart, mind, and soul.

On Sunday, August 12, the Lord looked down upon the earth and saw His daughter’s precious face; He put His arms around her and lifted her toward her new heavenly place.

In addition to her parents, Wisby and Ruth Collins, Helen is preceded in death by her husband: Roy Van Williams; one daughter: Gwynette Williams; one brother: Wisby Collins, Jr.; and one brother-in-law: Jack Jackson.

Helen leaves to mourn yet celebrate her life four children: Phillis Welcome, William Bonner (Yvonne), and Robin Van Williams, all of Valdosta, GA; and Sandra Ramsey (Bobby) of Atlanta, GA; one sister: Juanita Jackson of Peekskill, NY; one special cousin: Betty Anderson; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; her St. Paul AME Church family; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

The Celebration of Life for the late Mrs. Helen Louise Williams will be held Saturday, August 19 at 1:00pm from the sanctuary of St. Paul AME Church.

Rev. Billy McFadden is the Senior Pastor and will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Public viewing will be conducted Friday, August 18, from 10:00am - 8:00pm at Godfrey Funeral Home.
