Mr. Herbert "Bill" Rogers Godfrey, Sr

Herbert Rogers Godfrey, Sr., was born December 2, 1949 in Quitman, GA, to the late James Godfrey and the late Connie Dasher Godfrey.

Herbert, fondly called “Bill” by all who knew him, loved his family. He was quite a character and had a great sense of humor. You were guaranteed a good conversation and a good laugh when he was around. He did not mind telling you what was on his mind and could be very straight forward. He was full of wisdom. His favorite place was outdoors. Before his health failed, he loved to go fishing and painting.

On Sunday, August 13, God knew that Bill was suffering and at times he was in pain; God knew that he would never get well on earth again. So He closed his weary eyelids and whispered, “Peace be thine”.

In addition to his parents, Connie and James Godfrey, he is preceded in death by one son: Lendell Godfrey; two sisters: Betty Williams and Susie Godfrey; three brothers: James Godfrey, Everett Godfrey and Cal Godfrey; and his grandmother: Viola Godfrey.

Bill leaves to cherish fond memories, his wife of 36 years, Rose Anna Godfrey, his children: Tracey McCoy, Jeanette Godfrey, Calvin Williams, Herbert Godfrey, Jr. (Jessica), Candacy King, Sonja Walker, Georga Walker, RoseMarie Pettigrew, Brenda Walker, Silvery Adam, Jamie Wright and Eddie Wooten; three sisters: Doris Ponder, Velma Eady (Leroy) and Annie Ruth Charlton; one aunt: Mable Godfrey; a special nephew: Gregory Godfrey; a special grandson: Randolph Walker; two sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; a special brother-in-law: Clarence Guyton; three special friends: John Barnes, Jim Wright, and Mr. Sam; and a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

The Celebration of Life for the late Mr. Herbert Rogers Godfrey, Sr. will be held Sunday, August 20, at 2:00pm in the Godfrey Funeral Home Chapel.

Bro. Eric Cureton will officiate.

Interment will follow in Southview Cemetery

Public viewing will be held Friday, August 18, from 10:00am - 8:00pm and Saturday, August 19, from 10:00am - 6:00pm at Godfrey Funeral Home.
