Herbert James Taylor, Jr., was born to Herbert James Taylor, Sr. and Doris Marie Taylor, March 6, 1961 in Tacoma, WA.
He grew up in Rantoul, IL and was educated in the City School System. He had a great sense of humor and was very outgoing. His sometimes “goofy” personality drew many to him. Laughter and smiles were for all to enjoy when in his presence.
When Herbert was a child, he spoke, understood and thought as a child: but when he became a man, he put away childish things. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in October, 1980, where he served as a ACFT Structural Maintenance Craftsman. During his years of service, SSGT Taylor received several decorations, medals, badges and citations: Air Force Achievement Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Longevity Service Award, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Ward, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal and many more. He understood the value of hard work and loyalty.
On December 31, 1999, Herbert took Donta Smith to be his wife. Herbert loved his family and friends, faithful to the end; dedicated to the call of being a husband and father.
Of all the things and people Hebert loved, he loved God more. He was an active member of New Destiny Deliverance Temple Church where he faithfully served the Usher Ministry and the Security Ministry.
On Thursday, December 12, 2013, the Lord proudly spoke to his son and said, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant; enter thou into the joy of the thy Lord.”
Herbert leaves to cherish his memories, his wife: Donta Taylor of Valdosta, GA; three children: Herbert James Taylor III of Hinesville, GA, Desmond Jamal Taylor of Fort Campbell, KY and Isaac Lamar Taylor of Valdosta, GA; his parents: Deacon Herbert James Taylor Sr. and Doris Marie Taylor; two sisters: Daphne Carden of Omaha, NE and Jessica Taylor of Valdosta, GA; two uncles: Rev. Clyde Taylor (Yvonne) of Chicago, IL and Harvey Taylor of Detroit, MI; three nieces; four nephews; three brothers in-law; three special friends: Mary, Hope and Alicia Thompson; and a host of family, friends and his New Destiny Deliverance Temple Church family.
The homegoing celebration for the late Mr. Herbert James Taylor Jr., will be held Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 11:00am from the sanctuary of New Destiny Temple of Deliverance Church.
Elder Edward Mack will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
