Mr. Herman Rick Thomas

Mr. Herman “Rick” Thomas was born January 9, 1954, in Birmingham, Alabama to Ida L. Scott and the late Herman B. Scott.

Rick attended Jackson Senior High School in Miami, FL, and was a member of the football team. He graduated with the class of 1972 and furthered his studies at Miami-Dade Community College where his major was Business and Finance.

He spent most of his career years working in car sales at several Car Dealerships, which included: Braman Cadillac and Miami Lincoln Mercury, both located in Miami, FL; Ken Isaac Chevrolet, Moultrie, GA; Greg Isaac Toyota and Nissan, Tifton, GA; and Edward Motors of Moultrie, GA. In 2016, Herman retired from Metro Ford Car Dealership located in Miami, FL. In his leisure time, Rick enjoyed cooking and grilling outside, and he would often research different types of recipes to create delicious meals. He also enjoyed playing cards, playing golf and relaxing while fishing.

During the summer of 2014, Herman reunited with his longtime friend, Betty Crawford and their friendship developed into a loving relationship. On March 25, 2017, Herman married the love of his life Betty Crawford, and in their retired status, they shared many moments of love, laughter, and joy together in their new home. They also enjoyed traveling.

Mr. Herman “Rick” Thomas, 63, departed this life on Thursday, July 20, 2017, in Valdosta, Georgia surrounded by his wife, children, and loving family members.

In addition to his father, his was preceded in by one brother: Benjamin Scott; one sister: Linda Scott and one devoted aunt: Vera Lee Rosado.

Survivors left to remember Rick’s love and legacy include his loving wife, Betty Crawford Thomas; his mother: Ida L. Scott; his children: Andre Thomas, Travis Mathis, Tiffani Wright (Curtis), Candice Thomas-Malcom (Ricardo), Devon Thomas and Damien Thomas; four brothers: Ernest Brown (Eleanor), Joseph Thomas (Valery), Carl Scott and James Lowery; one sister: Debra McNeil (Jerry); fourteen grandchildren; three stepchildren; devoted in-laws: Deacon Britt Crawford and Marjorie Crawford; three sisters-in-law: Kay Ford, Regina Boston (John) and Pamela Johnson (Darren); three brothers-in-law: Dr. Rev. Marvin Crawford (Sherell), Winifred Crawford and Hayward Crawford; and a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

The Celebration of Life for the late Mr. Herman Rick Thomas will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11:00am from the sanctuary of St. Paul AME Church.

Rev. Billy McFadden is the pastor and will officiate.

Public viewing will be held Friday, July 28, in the Godfrey Funeral Home Chapel from 10:00am - 8:00pm.
