The U.S. Army Soldier’s Creed reflects a set of Army Values by which all Soldiers live: Loyalty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage. These principles truly describe the one we honor and remember today, Hiriam Turner Goods, Jr.
Hiriam, fondly called “Tee” was born June 3, 1978, in Meridian, MS, to Mr. Hiriam Turner Goods, Sr. and the late Shirley Hodges Caldwell. After completing his secondary education, Hiriam answered the call of duty to his country and enlisted in the Unites States Army. During his military career, he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. Hiriam was honorable discharged in July, 2010.
Hiriam was a strong man. His attitude embodied fearlessness! He was a fighter for what he believed in, especially when it came to his children, who were his life. Because of his love for his children, it was his desire to start a foundation entitled: “Parental Passage—A Father’s Right”. Not only was he a supportive and loving father, Hiriam was his brother’s keeper and his sister’s protector.
As much as Hiriam loved his children, he also loved bearing the last name “Goods”. The word goods is defined as being a benefit or a advantage to someone or something. Being a “Goods” was not just a name for “Tee”, it was a bond— “G-Unit for life.”
A little over a year ago, Hiriam received orders for a battle, he did not choose: Glioblastoma, which is a form of brain cancer. He fought as a good soldier until the very end. On Tuesday, September 25, Hiriam transitioned from labor to reward.
In addition to his mother, Shirley Hodges Caldwell, Hiriam was preceded in death by his grandparents: Claybon Goods, Adell Goods, and Azzie Hodges; his uncle: Claybon “Barry” Goods; and his aunts: Vanessa Goods, Debra Goods, and Tracy Goods.
Hiriam leaves to mourn his passing while yet remembering precious memories, his four children: Amari Goods of Wake Forrest, NC, Hiriam Goods III of Valdosta, GA, Angel Goods of Valdosta, GA, and Arletha (Adell) of Valdosta, GA; his parents: Hiriam T. Goods, Sr. and
Marcia Goods of Kenosha, WS; his brothers: Brandon M. Goods of Kenosha, WI and Jeremy A. Goods of Virginia Beach, VA; his sister: Jacqueline “Jackie” Goods of San Diego, CA; his grandmother: Almeda Daniels of Hawthorne, CA; his aunts and uncles: Don Goods of Bowie, MD, Myron Goods of Newark, NJ, Gail Howard of Newark, NJ, Robin Goods of East Orange, NJ, Michael Goods of Rochester, NY, Terry Goods of Queens, NY, and Della Howard of Bethlehem, PA; special cousins: Leslie, Chris, and Tony; and a host of extended family and friends.
