James Penny was born August 2, 1932, in Adel, GA, to the late Annie Mae Walker Penny and the late Ory Penny. Recognizing he needed a Savior at a young age, he joined County Line AME church and continued his walk with God until his health failed. Upon completion of his secondary education, James answered the call of duty to his country and enlisted in the United States Army. During his military career, he earned a National Defense Service Medal, a United Nations Service Medal, a Korean Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. After serving for a while, he was later honorably discharged.
James met and married his wife, Lula Mae Alderman and became a family. He provided for his family through his skill of carpentry. His work ethics was a true reflection of the man he was: dedicated and determined. He did the job right or he wasn’t leaving until it was right. He loved to take pictures for precious memories. His smile brought both cheer and comfort to all who knew him. James was also a “real man”. His wife, family and everyone that knew him will agree, he meant what he said and said what he meant. He never backed down from a decision he made.
On Tuesday, October 9, 2018, James received his final orders and transitioned from labor to reward.
In addition to his parents, Ory and Annie Mae Walker Penny, he is preceded in death by one son: Hubert Penny; two sisters: Evelyn Penny Davis and Elizabeth Penny Sumlin; and his three brothers: Vernon Penny, Kendall Penny, and Otha Penny.
James leaves to mourn his passing while yet remembering precious memories, his dedicated wife of 65years, Mrs. Lule Mae Penny; two children: Brenda Robinson (Al) of Valdosta, GA, and Christopher Penny (Sonya) of Miami, FL; one sister: Marjorie Penny Nesmith of Cecil, GA; one sister-in-law: Vernice Penny; his four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of special nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
