James Bennett Wilson was born on July 18, 1942, in Valdosta, GA to the late David Wilson and the late Gladys Bennett.
He was educated in the Valdosta City School System. After receiving his education, James joined the United States Marines in 1963 where he later became a Sergeant. While in the Marines, James earned many metals and commendations: National Defense Service Metal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Metal, Rifle Marksman Badge, File Clerk II, Law Enforcement, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon Bar, Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon Bar, Republic of Vietnam M.U. Citation (gallantry), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Later, James was honorably discharged from the U. S. Marines and became employed with the Inglewood California School, where he would retire.
On Wednesday, April 18, 2018, the Lord called James home and he is now at rest.
He was preceded in death by father, Mr. David Wilson; his mother, Ms. Gladys Bennett; his grandparents; and his aunts and uncles.
James leaves behind to cherish his memories: his four sisters: Mary A. Lopez of Valdosta, GA, Bobbie Moody of Valdosta, GA, Bess Collins of Orlando, FL, and Elizabeth Harrell of Orlando, FL; his two brothers: John Roberts (Patricia) of Cleveland, OH, and Herman Harrell of Orlando, FL; cousins: Demond Wilson (aka Lamont Sanford) of New York, Jimmie Harris of Atlanta, GA, Robert Bennett of Valdosta, GA, Stephany Jackson of Valdosta, GA, Joel Jackson of Atlanta, GA; special friend: Linda Laci of Valdosta, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, his extended family and friends.
The Celebration of Life for the late Mr. James Bennett Wilson will be Saturday, April 28, 2018, 2:00 p.m., at the chapel of Godfrey Funeral Home, 636 River Street, Valdosta.
Interment will follow in the Southview Cemetery.
Public viewing will be Friday, April 27, 2018, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
