Mrs. Janie S. Parker

November 10, 1951 — October 9, 2015

Janie Swanson Parker was born in Tuskegee, Alabama from the union of the late Eddie and Estella Swanson.

Janie received her education in the Macon County School System. She graduated from the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. Later on she moved to Valdosta, GA and became a first grade teacher at J.L. Lomax School where she molded and formed the young and growing minds and hearts of students entrusted to her care for over 15years. Janie believed that teaching was not a profession but a vocation, requiring dedication and a deep sense of commitment. To Janie, her greatest reward was found in the appreciation and affection of her students and the good she could do for them.

As a proud member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Janie strived daily to be a true reflection of the AKA tradition and embodied the AKA’s credo, “to be supreme in service to all mankind.”

Janie was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star continuing her legacy of charity, truth and loving-kindness.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother: Dr. Johnny Swanson.

She leaves cherishing memories with her devoted husband of 38years: Rodney Parker; a sister: Jessie Swanson; three brothers: Jimmy Swanson, Booker T. Swanson (Doris), and James Swanson; one sister-in-law: Eula Swanson; the Sisterhood of the AKA Sorority, Inc., the members of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

The Memorial Service for the late Mrs. Janie S. Parker will be held Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 11:00am in the Godfrey Funeral Home Chapel.
