Jessie Bell Cheattum

Mrs. Jessie Bell Cheattum, age 100, of Valdosta, GA, passed this life on Friday February 04, 2011 at Heritage House Nursing Home.

Mrs. Jessie Bell Tompkins Cheattum was born on December 28, 1910 to the late Bennie Tompkins and Dollie Tompkins in Treutlen County, Georgia. On February 4, 2011, Mrs. Cheattum was called to eternal rest. She was richly blessed having lived to be 100 years old. She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Elmira West and a loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rev. John Cheattum, three sisters, Katie Harrington, Lollie Cross, Bertha Davis and her brother, Marshall Tompkins. Mrs. Cheattum loved the Lord and her family. She will be forever remembered as a servant of God. Having served as an evangelist and a missionary, she always made it known to the world that God was the head of her life! The family of Mrs. Cheattum would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Rev. Morgan, Dr. Moss, Dr. Sanderlin and all of her caregivers.
The homegoing celebration for Mrs. Jessie Bell Cheattum will be held at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 1051 Howell Road, on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Dr. William C. Morgan will officiate and interment to follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The repast will be held at Day Spring Missionary Baptist Church. Public viewing will be today from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Godfrey Funeral Home. Sympathy may be expressed by signing the online registry at www.godfreyfuneralhome.net.
