Ms. Jessie Mae James was born on February 22, 1947 to the late Luella Phillips and Jessie James in Valdosta, GA.

Ms. James was a loving woman who loved Jehovah with all her heart. She enjoyed sharing her wisdom and the love of Jehovah with her family and friends.

As the Matriarch of her family, she loved her family very much. Known as “Suga Mama” to her children, her unconditional love was sweetness to their souls. She instructed and disciplined them with hands of grace and lived as an example of love.

Jessie Mae’s leisure activities and hobbies included reading, planting and caring for her flowers, and taking drives in the country.

On Friday, May 29, 2020, Ms. James transitioned from her earthly labor to place or rest.

In additional to her parents, she is preceded in death by four sisters: Flossie Dixon, Catherine Ashley, Lou bertha Lennon, and Lula Mae Phillips; and four grandparents: Carl Eddie, Sr. Jimmy  Eddy, Fleming Eddy, and Florence Taylor.

Ms. James leaves cherished memories to her six children: Sheila Searcy (Bernard), Janice Thomas (Alvin), Issac White, Jeffery James (Stephanie), Robert Reese, and Demetrius James all of Valdosta, GA; one sister: Willie Mae Phillips of Valdosta, GA; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; three brothers in-law; two special nieces: Carolyn Andrews and Linda Phillips of Valdosta, GA; five special friends: Robert Lee, Sr. of Lakeland, GA, Blanche and Mable of Valdosta, GA, and Eddie Ashley and his wife of Savannah, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Graveside Services for the late Ms. Jessie Mae James will be Saturday, June 6, 2020, 12:00 P.M. at Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Evangelist Vera Bunion will officiate.

Public Viewing will be Friday, June 5, 2020, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

All those who wish to pay their respects in person must wear a facial mask during visitation and at graveside services.

Sympathy may be expressed by signing the online registry at www.godfreyfuneralhome.net.

Due to COVID-19, Godfrey Funeral Home will be enforcing social distancing and following the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines.
