Joanna Roseman Jones

On Thursday, September 15th, Joanna Roseman Jones, affectionately called "Mama Jo", passed away. She was eighty-seven years old. Born to Frank and Pattie Roseman, Joanna graduated from Rust College with a Bachelor's degree in Business Education and she went on to become a teacher.  She also received her Master's degree in Business Education from Valdosta State University.  She married Wille Roy Jones on July 21st, 1958 and they spent almost 56 years together in wedded bliss, until he preceded her in death on July 9, 2014.  This union produced two children: Roney Andre Jones (Rhonda) in Gainesville, Florida and Juan Dante' Jones (Yasmen) in Liberty Township, Ohio.  Roney and Rhonda produced four Children: Savanna Ohare (Marc Isadore), Roney Andre Jones, Jr., Hannibal Elijah Jones, and Joshua Benjamin Jones.  Roney and Rhonda's daughter, Savanna, produced two great grandchildren for Mama Jo: Lydia Ruth and Juliana Simone.  Juan Dante and Yasmen produced four Children: Juan Dante Jones II (Leslie), Jaden Jones  (Deceased), Jordan DuVall Jones, and Jacob Dylan Jones.  She also had numerous nephews, nieces, surrogate family members and God children.

Joanna taught Business Education in the Valdosta City School System and retired after 30 years of service. Joanna grew up as a faithful member of Bethel AME Church in Senatobia, Mississippi, but regularly attended the Moody Air Force Base Chapel and St. Lewis Baptist church while in Georgia.  She was very active in the Retired Teachers Association and the Civitan Club.  She loved cooking, baking, and spending time with her friends, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was known for her friendliness, her smile, and her kind demeanor and truly did not know any strangers!

The Celebration of Life for the late Mrs. Joanna R. Jones. will be Wednesday, September 28, 2022, 3:00 p.m., from the chapel of Godfrey Funeral Home, 636 River Street, Valdosta, GA.

Rev. Ulysses Mims will be officiating.

Public viewing will be Wednesday, September 28, 2022, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Godfrey Funeral Home.

All those who wish to pay their respect in person must wear mask at the public viewing and the funeral service.
