Joe Lewis Smith

Mr. Joe L. Smith was born to the late Mr. Hollis Smith and the late Mrs. Trudy Cheaton Smith August 3, 1926, in Ashburn, GA.

He received his early education while attending the Turner County School System. He later answered the call of service by enlisting in the Army Aircore. Joe was also a proud Mason with the Joshua Masonic Lodge Number 105 of St. Petersburg, FL.

Joe departed this life on Wednesday, April 19, 2017.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 38 years Mrs. Emma Louise Smith; his father-in-law: Mr. Warren H. Berrien; mother-in-law: Mrs. Margaret Berrien; one brother-in-law: Mr. Morris Berrian and one son-in-law: Rev. J. L. Scott.

Joe leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted son: Timothy L. Smith (Inez) of Valdosta, GA; one daughter: Ms. Tannis B. Scott of Anniston, AL; his two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Connie Adams of Valdosta, GA and Mrs. Margie Williams (Charles) of Gainesville, FL; one brother-in-law: Mr. Warren Berrien (Jewell) of Denver, CO; four loving grandchildren: Shenita Jackson (Timothy), Kenyatta Henderson (Cassandra), William Harris and Jeremy Henderson; his seven great-grandchildren: Timothy, Jr., Timandre, Tia’Monie, Annora, Kenyatta, Jr., LaQuinn and Jeremy, Jr.; three god-sons: Arthur Davis, Tracey Moore and Darryl Burt; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

The celebration of life for the late Mr. Joseph L. Smith will be held Saturday, April 29 at 2:00pm in the Godfrey Funeral Home Chapel.

Dr. Norman Edwards will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Pallbearers Cemetery.

Public viewing will be held Friday, April 28 from 10:00am - 8:00pm at Godfrey Funeral Home.
