John B. Phillips

Mr. John B. Phillips, age 83, of Valdosta, GA, passed this life on Friday March 25, 2011, at the Langdale Hospice House.

John “Boy” Phillips was born November 09, 1927 to the late Mr. Shed Phillips and the late Mrs. Daisy Robinson Phillips in Clyattville, GA. He married Daisy Lee Phillips and to this union eleven children were born.

He attended the public school system and was a share cropper for the earlier part of his adult life. He later became an employee for the City of Valdosta and retired in 1993. After retirement, he rendered services to the Valdosta Daily Times and the community at large.

The son of a pastor, reared in the church, John “Boy” later became a minister of the gospel and preached the good news of the gospel until his health failed.

In addition to his parents, John “Boy” was preceded in death by one sister: Lee Ola Phillips and three brothers: Jamie Phillips, Lonnie Phillips and Jessie James Phillips.

To cherish his memories are his wife: Daisy Lee Phillips; eleven children: Katie (Obediah) Wilson of Naylor, GA, Earlene Everett, John L. (Dorothy) Phillips, Bobby Phillips, Terry (Claudia) Phillips and Alfred (Bernetta) Phillips of Valdosta, GA, Maggie Thomas of Saudi Arabia, Lena Rankin of Hahira, GA, Gracie Phillips of Pontiac, MI, Deborah (Tony) Marion of Bellevue, NE, and Eric Phillips of Phoenix, AZ; thirty one Grandchildren, twenty seven Great-grandchildren; Brother and Sister-In-Laws: Jeremiah (Connie) Rocquemore, Joann Rocquemore and Mary Liza Jenkins and host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.


Funeral service will be on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 11 a.m., from the sanctuary of the Truth Harbor Apostolic Church, 4202 Loch Laurel Road, Lake Park, GA. Pastor Ben Weeks, presiding, and Elder John Lewis Phillips, officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
