A Time to be Born:
John Ellis Yearby, Sr. was born January 1, 1943, to the late Joseph and Veronia Yearby. Fourteen of his siblings preceded him in death.
A Time to be Educated:
John attended school at Salem Elementary in Barney, Georgia and P.G. Williams School in Valdosta, Georgia. John was a very good actor and performed very well in many of the school productions.
A Time to Love:
He later moved to Miami, FL, where he met and married Doris Speed, August 9, 1963. To this union, seven children were born.
A Time to Serve:
John accepted Christ into his life and became a Christian in 1972. Because he loved to sing to the glorification of God, he chose to become a song leader. He was known by many as “A Hard Fighting Soldier” for the Lord. Churches of Christ membership includes: Golden Heights, Driftwood and Miami Gardens, all located in Florida.
A Time to Work:
John worked at Miami Prefabricator’s for many years, where he became a professional Truss Prefabricator and later along with his friend, Maury Eubanks, started a Truss Company. He later retired and moved back to Georgia and found a church home — The South Side Church of Christ, where he served faithfully.
A Time to Die:
On Tuesday, May 19, 2015, John transitioned from labor to reward.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving wife of over 51 years: Doris Yearby of Valdosta, GA; five sons: Grover Yearby (Denise), Kip Yearby, Marc Yearby (Pamela) of Miami, FL, John Yearby, Jr, and Ivory Yearby of Valdosta, GA; three daughters: Donna Yearby of Valdosta, GA, Dawn Yearby, and Daishon Yearby of Miami, FL; two sisters: Polly Raines (Robert) and Dorothy Walker; five sisters-in-law: Charlie Mae Lucas, Deloris Yearby (Clarence), Regina Speed, Stacy Speed, and Carolyn Speed; one brother in-law: Michael Speed; two dedicated and beloved nephews: Eddie Williams and James Miley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Christians, and sorrowing friends.
The celebration of life for the late Mr. John Ellis Yearby, Sr., will be held Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 11:00am from the sanctuary of Southside Church of Christ.
Bro. John Iverson will officiate.
Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens.
Public viewing will be held Friday, May 29,2015 from 1:00pm-8:00pm in the Godfrey Funeral Home Chapel.
