Johnell Woods was born December 3, 1944, in Lowndes County Georgia to the late Collins Woods and the late Arrena Burgman Woods.
The U.S. Army Soldier’s Creed reflects a set of Army Values by which all Soldiers live: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. These principles define who Soldiers are and who they aspire to become, as individuals and as part of a team. Johnell was a living example of all these values. He served the people of the United States with a spirit of excellence always placing his assigned missions first. He never accepted defeat and would not quit. He was a guardian of freedom and the American way of life. Indeed he was an American Soldier.
He was also a beloved, father, brother and friend. He was so special in a really unique way. He will always be remembered, there’ll never be another one to replace him in his family’s heart.
Johnell Woods time of departure is now at hand. Day is done gone the sun, from the lake, from the hills, from the sky; all is well, safely rest, God is nigh.
He leaves to cherish his memories his two sons: Derrick Bernard Woods of Valdosta, GA and Eric Dye of Valdosta, GA; three sisters: Annie Mae Woods of Hahira, GA; Alberta Woods Sanders of Valdosta, GA and Sallie Woods Washington (Raymond) of Valdosta, GA; a brother: Joel Woods (Evelyn) of Hahira, GA; four aunts: Louella Simmons of Valdosta, GA, Vernella Foster of Valdosta, GA, Rosie Lee Burgman of Valdosta, GA and Callie Burgman of Valdosta, GA; special friends: Mark and Sandra Belcher, Dr. John H. Manning, Sr. and Betty Williams; two grandchildren; one sister-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Today is full of memories of a brother, laid to rest and every single one of them is filled with happiness. For he was someone special always such a joy to know and there is so much pain knowing we have to let you go. That’s why this special message is sent to heaven above; for the angels to take care of you, Johnell, and give you all our love.
The celebration of life for the late Mr. Johnell Woods will be held Monday, November 2, 2015 at 12:00pm in the Godfrey Funeral Home Chapel.
Dr. John H. Manning, Sr. will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Harrington Rest Cemetery.
