Mr. Johnny Fillmore was born March 10, 1955, in Valdosta, Georgia to the late Mr. Ivory Fillmore, Sr. and the late Mrs. Lillie Mae Fillmore.
Johnny received his education in the Lowndes County School System, starting at Clyattville Elementary, then Lowndes Middle School and ending with Lowndes High School. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Army, where he would receive his high school diploma. He was a member of the 101st Airborne Division Screaming Eagles. He served in the United States Army from 1972 until 1976.
Upon leaving the military service, Johnny returned to Valdosta. After a brief stay he moved to Miami, FL and later, relocated his family there in 1979. He worked for the State of Florida from 1977 to the present. Johnny was employed by the Federal Government for 37 years. He started at the VA Hospital and completed his service at the United States Postal Service.
Johnny always put others before himself. His generosity has been received by many over the years. His focus in life was to help people and try to make their lives better. He was always giving and doing for others. He loved to make people laugh. He was a very happy man who loved his family dearly. He always showed respect for others. He was an honor-able man who honored the Lord God Almighty.
On Monday, July 9th, Johnny passed away at the age of 63, while receiving care at the North Florida Regional Medical Center, Gainesville, FL. Johnny is now resting in the arms of Jesus Christ.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents: Mr. Ivory Fillmore, Sr and Mrs. Lillie Mae Fillmore.
Johnny leaves to mourn yet rejoicing and giving thanks for his life, a loving wife: Mrs. Jacqueline Fillmore; three children: Jamie of Vancouver, WA, Tracy (Shantee) of Gaithersburg, MD, and Andrea of Valdosta, GA; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; four sisters: Cleo Bacon, Mamie Hawkins, Queen Leggett (Ronnie), all of Valdosta, GA, and Lola Myres of West Palm Beach, FL; two brothers: Carl Fillmore (Cora) of Miami, FL, and Willie Earl Fillmore of Gainesville, FL; one aunt: Verelean Griffin of Valdosta, GA; one uncle: Silas Griffin of Valdosta, GA; one sister in-law; one brother in-law; and a and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The Celebration of Life for the late Mr. Johnny Fillmore will be Sunday, July 15, 2018, 11:00 a.m., at Godfrey Funeral Home Chapel, 636 River Street, Valdosta. Rev. James P. Robinson will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Irvin Hill Church Cemetery,2696 U. S. Highway 41S, Valdosta, GA.
Public viewing will be Saturday, July 14th, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Godfrey Funeral Home.
