Mr. Joseph Wright, Jr. was born January 18, 1945, in Valdosta, GA, to the late Mr. Joseph Wright, Sr. and the late Mrs. Ethel Mae McCoggle Wright.
Upon graduating from high school, Joseph answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Army. While serving his country, he was rewarded with many decorations, campaign ribbons and medals to include but not limited to: the Parachute Badge, The National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal, and The Vietnam Campaign Medal .
After serving his country, Joseph returned home to answer yet another call—to serve his family and friends. He was a great role model to his children and grandchildren.
On Sunday, November 8, 2020, Joseph knew beyond the shadow of a doubt that he had fought a good fight, finished his course and his time of departure was at hand and he was ready to be offered up. Joseph transitioned from labor to reward.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his aunts and uncles.
Joseph leaves to celebrate his life and cherish precious loving memories to his four children: Tammy Tooley (John) of Newnan, GA, Mia Shaun Harris Wright (Tim) of Thomasville, GA, and Becky Wright Martin (Derek) of Cleveland, OH, and Travis Howard of Acworth, GA ; his four brothers: John Lewis Wright, Alexander Wright, and Robert Wright (Chris Ann), all of Valdosta, GA; nine grandchildren: Rachel Tooley, Jeremy Tooley, Tia Butler, Tara Harris, Tamera Wright, Titus Wright, Sharia Arwine, Ciara Wright, and James Wright; three great grandchildren; special nephew who took care of him, Shareef Wright (Shae); nieces and nephew: Vonda Miles, Keisha Wright, and Alexander Mayute Wright; and a host of other nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Celebration of Life for the late Mr. Joseph Wright, Jr. will be Saturday, November 14, 2020, 11:00 a.m., at the residence, 5048 Knights Ferry Road, Valdosta.
Interment will follow in Gary Cemetery, Gary Cemetery Road, Valdosta, GA.
Public viewing will be Friday, November 13, 2020, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Godfrey Funeral Home.
All those who wish to pay their respect in person must wear a mask during visitation and at the gravesite.
