Joseph Davis, Sr.

Joseph Davis, Sr., was born March 6, 1936 in Sasser, GA to the late Richard and Sallie Bell Davis.

He served in the United States Army for 24 years. Later, he retired from the Unites States Postal Office in Newark, NJ. After returning to Valdosta, he was employed by Lowndes County Public Works and the Langdale Company as a truck driver.

Joseph was loving, outgoing and friendly. He was a good father to his children. He was a loving person to all whom he came in contact with him. Always smiling. He loved fishing, hunting, music, dancing, shooting pool and caring for his property.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons: Jonathan J. Davis and Kevin Anderson; one grandson: Terrell T. Walker and fifteen siblings.

Joseph leaves to cherish his memory his wife: Mildred Anderson Davis of Valdosta, GA; three sons: Joseph Davis, Jr. of South Carolina, Jeremy J. Davis and Melvin Anderson of Newark, NJ; two daughters: Adrian Anderson of Newark, NJ and Shonda Anderson of Valdosta, GA; six sisters: Luddie Davis of Newark, NJ; Frances Jackson of Valdosta, GA; Lula Robinson (Isaiah) of Cecil, GA; Elizabeth Hezekiah of Columbus, GA, Mildred Lavern Davis of Detroit, MI, and Ernestine Davis of Valdosta, GA; five grandchildren; seven sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 10:00am in the chapel of Godfrey Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
