It is with deepest sympathy Godfrey Funeral Home announces, Katherine W. Fisher, age 88 of Valdosta, GA, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. She was born March 25, 1937, in Rand, West Virginia, to the late Samuel and Edna Wright. She touched many lives with her wisdom, humor, compassion, and strength.
Katherine earned a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia State College, where she met her late husband, Archie Lee Fisher. She obtained a master’s degree in biology education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed a bachelor's degree in biblical and theological studies from Heritage Christian University in Florence, AL.
She was a devoted teacher and believed in the power of education to help young people succeed. Katherine taught biology to middle school, high school and college-aged students. Also, she was a General Educational Development (GED) teacher, who was passionate about preparing students for the GED exam, which is equivalent to a high school diploma.
Katherine believed in serving others and made it a priority to volunteer. She served in the prison ministry and volunteered at the Lowndes County Soup Kitchen and local homeless shelter. In addition, she taught Sunday school classes, nurturing the spiritual growth of young people.
She was a member of River St. Church of Christ and found joy in her church family. She loved visiting antique stores and finding meaningful treasures for her home. Katherine also authored two inspiring children's books, Thankful Children and A Faith Builder for Children, which explore themes of gratitude and trusting in God.
Katherine is survived by her daughters, LeJeune Fisher and Lynn Pettaway, son-in-law, Kelvin Pettaway, and beloved granddaughter, Hope. She is also survived by two sisters, Eva Campbell and Joyce Hargro and a sister-in-law, Carol Wright, as well as nieces and nephews.
The Celebration of Life for the late Katherine W. Fisher will be Saturday, November 22, 2025, 1:00 p.m., at River Street Church of Christ, 619 River St., Valdosta, GA 31601.
