The Story of Kevin Edward Johnson
Birth, Education, and Career
Mr. Kevin E. Johnson was born on March 2, 1954, in Glenwood, Georgia, to Albert Thomas Johnson, Sr. and Katie Christian Johnson. He was educated in the Lanier County school system, graduating from Lanier County High in 1972. Mr. Johnson attended Valdosta State College and earned a B.A. degree in Communications in 1982. After thirty years of service as a state trooper and assistant director of the Thomasville Youth Detention center, he retired from the State of Georgia in 2011. In 2012, he accepted a position with the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners and then transferred to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, where he worked as a Jail Officer, School Resource Officer, and later in the Criminal Investigation Division. --Completed the 59 th Trooper School (1984)
--Peace Officer of the Year (1992)
--Completed Executive Protection, Raleigh, NC (1995)
--Letter of Commendation from Gov. Zell Miller for the Summer Olympic Games (1996)
--Letter of Appreciation from Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor (2000)
--20-year Faithful Service Award on from Gov. Sonny Perdue and the Dept. of Public Safety

--Certificate of Appreciation from the General Assembly of Georgia from Lt. Governor Mark Taylor and Terry Coleman, Speaker of the House of Representatives, for service rendered to the General Assembly for the security and welfare of its members (2004)
--Two letters of commendation (Superior Leadership; High Standard of Excellence; Respected by all who knew him) while working long hours under stressful circumstances (2005)
--Senate Resolution 1405 was adopted in the Senate “Commending the Georgia State Patrol Executive Security and recognizing the services of Master Trooper Kevin E. Johnson to Georgia and the Lt. Governor, and for other purposes” (2006)
--Certificate of Achievement acknowledging the completion of the Introductory National Incident Management System course (2006)
--Certificate of Achievement acknowledging the completion of the Introduction to the Incident Command system I-100 for Law Enforcement (2006)
Mr. Johnson departed his earthly life of November 5, 2021.
He was preceded in death by his father Albert T. Johnson, Sr. and sister, Barbara Johnson-Motley.

He is survived by his loving wife, Arrie Lee Johnson; mother: Katie Christian Johnson of Albany, Georgia; children, Natasha Nicole Whitfield (Derrick) of Lilburn, Georgia; Kelvie Daniel Johnson of Lenox, Georgia; LeReese Ash (Torrey) of Valdosta, Georgia; Jennifer Jones Mann (Shawn Lee) of Ray City, Georgia; Marcus Kyle Jones (April) of Valdosta, Georgia; brothers: Albert Thomas Johnson Jr. (Emma) of Lakeland, Georgia, Hedren Harry Johnson of Stone Mountain, Georgia; brother-in-law: Allen Orr, Sr. of Valdosta, Georgia; sister-in-law: Shirley Ann Orr of Atlanta, Georgia; a very special cousin: Joseph Walker of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren: Nybriah Gudes, Yasmin Johnson, Nyla Simone Whitfield, Journey Johnson, Derrick Travis Whitfield, Jr., Torrey Ash, Jr., Lillian Gabrielle Irvin, Christopher Shawn Mann, Korey Brice Mann, Julianna Kylie Jones; and a host of extended family members and friends.
The Celebration of Life graveside/interment service for the late Mr. Kevin Edward Johnson will be Sunday, November 14, 2021, 2:00 p.m., Mt. Vienna AME Church Cemetery, 4880 Vienna Church Road, Valdosta, GA.
Minister Rozell Orr will be officiating.
Public viewing will be Saturday, November 13, 2021, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Godfrey Funeral Home.
All those who wish to pay their respect in person must wear mask at the public viewing and at the service.
