Laverne Howard Thomas was born February 22, 1948 in Valdosta, GA to the late Seamon and Ophelia Howard.
She was educated in the Valdosta City School System and graduated from Pinevale High School.
Recognizing her ability to relate well with people, Laverne knew that being a Social Service Worker was indeed her calling. She girded herself with honor and strengthened her ability with patience. After providing several years of dedicated service to the residents and the families of Parkwood Development Center, Laverne retired.
Laverne loved the Lord with all her heart, mind, body and soul. She was a member of Forrest Park Church of Christ. On Wednesday, June 3, 2015, this hard-fighting soldier declared, I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight and I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness.
Laverne leaves her legacy of love to her devoted husband: Jack Thomas of Valdosta, GA; one son: James Thomas (Shirbendra) of Stockbridge, GA; two daughters: Erica Thomas and Scherita Thomas, both of Valdosta, GA; three sisters: Dorothy Jackson and Carol Hodge, both of Valdosta, GA and Shirley Crutchfield (Charles) of Columbus, GA; five brothers: James Howard (Barbara), Henry Howard (Virginia), Al Howard (Vernell), Gary Howard, and Jimmy Hodge, all of Valdosta, GA; four grandchildren: Trinity Thomas, Jonathan Thomas, and David Thomas, all of Stockbridge, GA and Erin Brantley of Valdosta, GA; two special friends: Irene Miller and Betty Jean Orr; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
A memorial service for the late Laverne Howard Thomas will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. from the sanctuary of the Forrest Park Church of Christ, 4263 Inner Perimeter Rd, Valdosta.
Minister Ryan Tuten will officiate.
