Lelar Mae Aikens

February 13, 1946 — March 29, 2013

Lelar Mae Aikens was born to the late Persell and Verinda Woods February 13, 1946 in Lowndes County, GA.

She was educated in the Lowndes County School System and was a graduate of Westside High School.

She confessed and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church.

Understanding the importance of good work ethics and morals, she retired from Bellsouth/AT&T after 41 years of service. Her works were warm and wise.

There was magic in Lelar’s touch and sunshine in her smile. Love in everything she did that made those around her life worthwhile. Her life was full of loving deeds and forever thoughtful of her family needs. She was “Diva Supreme”. She was a natural beauty to the eye, stunning beauty to the heart and a loving beauty to all that knew her. Lelar was a caring, compassionate, understanding and very honest woman. One who loved from the purest place of her being, her heart.

The Lord gently beckoned her to Him, Friday, March 29 at her place of residence surrounded by her precious gems, Theresa and Debora.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three brothers: Edward "Billy" Woods, Laverne Woods and Willie Springfield and one brother in-law: L.C. “Joe” Jones.

Lelar leaves to cherish her memories two devoted daughters: Theresa Aikens and Debora Aikens of Macon, GA; three sisters: Willie Mae Jones, Francis Washington (Samuel) of Valdosta, GA and Evelyn James of Kileen, TX; one brother: Sherman Woods of Valdosta, GA; two uncles: Artis Sharper (Lilly)and Willie James Williams of Valdosta, GA; two aunts: Eula Godfrey and Arena Woods of Valdosta, GA; three sisters in-law: Ophelia Woods and Loretha Woods of Valdosta, GA and Dorothy Miller of Altamonte Springs, FL; special friend: Annie Crawford Walker; special niece: Mary Evelyn Berrian, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.
