Maerentha Williams Lane (Aka "Rent")

Mrs. Maerentha Williams Lane, affectionately known as “Rent”, 72, went home to be with our lord and savior on Sunday, September 6, 2020. She was born in Boston, GA to the late Archie Lee and the late Cora Lee Tim Williams. At an early age, she gave her life to Christ and joined the Richland Missionary Baptist Church in Boston, GA. She graduated from Magnolia High School in Thomasville, GA and continued her education at Walton Area Vocational School. She became a secretary in 1968 starting her career off at Susie Dunlap Elementary School. She met and married the love of her life, Robert Lane on September 3, 1968 and moved to Valdosta, GA; to this union three beautiful children were born. She continued her love of Christ and moved her membership to Riverhill Missionary Baptist Church and continued her career as a Secretary in the Valdosta City School System until she retired in 2006 after 38 dedicated years. Maerentha was a dedicated wife and mother first and foremost. She was well-known for her amazing cakes and cooking.

In addition to her parents, Maerentha Lane was preceded in death by three brothers: Archie Lee Williams Jr., Billy J. Williams, and Clifford Williams; and one sister: Shirley Williams Burke.

She leaves a legacy of love, faith and cherished memories to her devoted and loving husband: Mr. Robert Lane; her children: Tracy L. Winder (Jessie) of Stone Mountain, GA, Robert A. Lane “Tony” (Tamara) of Quitman, GA, Creshendra J. Rigney “Jan” (Gyrone) of McDonough, GA; grandchildren: Marco Lane, Roberto Hecksher, T. Rae Burton, and Taya Burton; sisters: Barbara Hayes of Stone Mountain, GA, Carolyn Williams (Jesse) of Boston, GA, Merilyn Williams of Stockbridge, GA, and Eleanor Spencer (Larry) of Quitman, GA; two special nieces: Catherine Williams (Willis) raised as a sister, and Teresa Burke, both of Daytona Beach, FL; special sister in-law: Alice Williams of Decatur, GA; five brothers in-law: Willie C. Lane, Ulysses Lane, Johnny Lane (Lucille), Edward Lane, and Claude Lane (JoAnn); and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside Services for the late Mrs. Maerentha Williams Lane, affectionately called “Rent”, will be Saturday, September 12, 2020, 10:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 1692 Adel Highway, Quitman, GA.

Dr. Joe Troope will officiate.

Public viewing will be Friday, September 11, 2020, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

All those who wish to pay their respect in person must wear a mask during visitation and at the gravesite.
