Mamie Louise Miller Wright, the daughter of the late Hoyt Miller Sr. and Catherine Miller of Morven, GA, was born June 27, 1949 in Brooks, GA.
She attended the Brooks Co. School System and graduated from Washington Street High School in Quitman, GA in 1967. She continued her education at George Washington Carver Business College in Jacksonville, FL and graduated in 1970. She began her working career at Levi Strauss Inc. in Valdosta where she was employed for over 18 years and later ventured into a self-employment endeavor. She opened “Mamie’s Fancy Flower Shop” and created original masterpieces for her customers on a regular basis until she became ill.
At an early age she joined Dillinoy CME Church in Morven. She was baptized on July 9, 1961 in Lawson Pond also known as “The River”. Mamie was a faithful member of Dillinoy CME Church and served on numerous boards. She was president of the Senior Choir, overseer of the Evangelism and Missionary Board. She was a faithful and active member in the church until death.
She was someone that could offer advice and give a listening ear to others. She loved being around others and attending church. She would definitely bring God with her and was not afraid to praise Him by herself. Her legacy: Forget about yourself and help others.
In addition to her father, Mamie was preceded in death by two children: April and Marvesta Wright; one brother: Hoyt Miller, Jr.; grandparents: Mamie Manor, Willie H. Simmons, Herbie and Drucella Miller.
Mamie leaves cherished memories to a devoted husband of 40years: Deacon Martin Wright, Jr.; one daughter: Roxanna (Donald) Haddley; two sons: Almonte Simmons and Peter (Sabrina) Lane; loving mother: Catherine Miller; precious grandchildren: Tre`von and Tyree Lane, Alexandria, Donyale and Taylor Haddley and Kali Simmons; siblings: Laverne (Jonathan) Smallwood, James (Thelma) Miller, Lula (Samuel) Clemons, Carolyn (Allen) Nelson, Ernest (Beverly) Miller, Katrina (Henry) Grisson and Brenda F. Miller; aunts and uncles: Laura Townsend, Maxine (Julius) Clark and Charles (Jeanette) Simmons; in-laws: O.W. Wright, Bobby (Kaye) Wright, Earl J. Wright, Charles (Sonya) Wright, Jim H. (Nadine) Wright, Edna Sermons and Anna Banks; god-children: Quvan Mitchell, Marilyn Powell, April Yearby, George Ponder, Carrie Grisson, Reggie Grisson, Anthony Jones, Elizabeth Grisson, Henry Grisson and Dion Grisson; special friend: Ora Spencer Taylor and Cassandra Foster; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family that will miss her dearly.
The homegoing celebration for Mrs. Mamie L. Wright will be held Saturday, January 07 , 2012 at 3:00pm from the chapel of Dillinoy CME Church in Morven, GA.
Burial will follow at the Pineview Cemetery in Morven.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 06, 2012 from 6:00pm - 7:00pm at the Godfrey Funeral Home Chapel.
