Margaret Bowers Smith

Our beloved Margaret Bowers Smith transitioned into eternal rest on November 17, 2014,in Valdosta, Georgia. She was born May 25, 1928 to the late Earl and Annie Bowers of Springfield, Tennessee. She was one of six children.

Margaret accepted Christ at an early age. In her adult life she was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church where she served on the usher board. In her later years she relocated to Valdosta, Georgia where she joined Beulah Temple Apostolic Church. Here she was baptized in the Name of Jesus and she served as a faithful member until her transition into glory.

Margaret was preceded in death by her loving husband: Robert Smith: one grandson: Timothy D. Smith; two sons: Robert Smith Jr., and Jimmy Smith; and all of her siblings.

Margaret leaves to cherish her memories: one devoted daughter: Mary F. Gates of Valdosta, Georgia; one devoted son in law: Ivory Gates of Valdosta, Georgia; Five grandchildren: Roderick (Camesha) of Shreveport, LA., Tousha (Terence) Smart of Shreveport, LA, LaToya Gates of Valdosta, GA, Shawanda (Kevin) Welch of Shreveport, LA, and Laronda Gates of San Antonio, TX, and one adopted granddaughter: Felicia (Warrant) Goins of San Antonio, TX; One step daughter: Gloria Diane Smith and her son Cedric Smith of Shreveport, LA; Aunts: Mozell Kelley of Keithville, LA and Kathy Smith Staton of Deberry, TX; Eight great-grandchildren: T’erra, Jay’lynn, Ja`Kiyah, Joshua, Brianna, Xavier (fluffy jaws), Sh’Lexis, and Sh’Kendra. She leaves devoted friends Annie Hill and C.J. Fredrick. She also leaves behind a host of friends and church family.

The celebration of life for the late Mrs. Margaret Bowers Smith will be held Monday, November 24, 2014 at 11:00am in the Godfrey Funeral Home Chapel.

Pastor J. P. Miller will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Pallbearers Cemetery.
