Marie Hopkins Bailey was born August 10, 1927 in Falmouth, FL to the late Rev. William Lee Hopkins, Sr. and the late Lucille Cason Hopkins.
Marie possessed a love that was true and sincere. She was loving, caring, compassionate and very generous. Always a smile, instead of a frown. Always a hand, when one was down. Always true, thoughtful and kind, wonderful memories she leaves behind.
Her beauty will be missed in every way. She was a very classy and fashionable lady. Her legacy to her daughters simply states: Always dress to impress, always dress for success.
She loved the Lord with all of heart, mind and strength. She was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she was recognized as mother of the church and served on the kitchen ministry.
Marie was granted safety in the arms of Christ her Savior, Saturday, November 29, 2014.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband: Hulie Bailey; two sisters: Johnnie Mae Davis and Rev. Lucille H. Jackson; three brothers: Rev. William L. Hopkins, Jr., Alvin Hopkins, and Henry Edward Hopkins; grandparents: Washington Middleton, Delphia Middleton, Jillett Hopkins an Mary Hayes Hopkins; aunts and uncles: Etta Mae Fryson, Regina Fowler, Gertrude Strickland, Retha Ratliff, Eugene Brown and Turner Harris.
Marie Bailey will be forever remembered missed by her children: Rev. John H. Culbreth (Dr. Bonita) of Fayetteville, GA, Earnestine B. Payton (Charles) of Valdosta, GA, Rev. Jimmy E. Bauknight of Seattle, WA, Prophetess Sherri Ann Murphy (Walter) of Valdosta, GA, Gloria Jones of Valdosta, GA, Rev. Charles Phillip Bauknight (Brendia) of Columbus, GA, and Glenda Marie Bauknight of Valdosta, GA; four sisters: Delhia H. Hill of Thomasville, GA, Annie Pearl Clark (Ira Lee) of Thomasville, GA, Katie Mae Hopkins of Whitesburg, GA and Willie Mae Hayes of Valdosta, GA; twenty four grandchildren; fifty nine great grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one brother in-law; one godson: Andrew P. Robinson; two very special friends: Irma Baker and Carrie Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The celebration of life for the late Mrs. Marie Bailey will be held Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 11:00am from the sanctuary of Union Cathedral.
Bishop Wade S. McCrae is the pastor.
Rev. John Culbreth will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
